Hope: is a cognitive process which motivates you to find willpower (goal-directed determination) and waypower (planning of ways to meet goals) which leads to positive emotions (the expectation of meeting desired goals)
Efficacy: (self-efficacy) is an individual’s belief in their ability to achieve goals. This is defined as a personal judgment of how well one can execute courses of action required to deal with prospective situations. Expectations of self-efficacy determines whether an individual will be able to exhibit coping behavior and how long effort will be sustained in the face of obstacles.
Resilience: When faced with adversity in life, how does a person cope or adapt? Why do some people seem to bounce back from difficult events or loss much quicker than others? Why do some people seem to get “stuck” in a point in their life, without the ability to move forward? Resilience is a learned skill which is developed as you engage in your life-world.
Optimism: can be defined as making a positive attribution about succeeding now and in the future. People with a low external locus of control tend to internalize positive events. They believe that for something good to occur, they need to mobilise their internal resources to make it happen. This is a learned behavioural construct underpinned by the research in learned helplessness and learned optimism.
